The Mary Dress – Baby White Dress
This Baby White Dress is original and you will appreciate each of the detailed designs that combine to give it a unique look. Very Refreshing! It is made from cotton broadcloth. A front panel is tucked on either side beginning from the simple neckline and continues down past the bodice where the folds continue all the way down the dress. A beautiful hand-embroidered design decorates the top of this tucked panel directly over the center of the bodice. Underneath the bodice is a small line of smocking! It adds such exquisite detail. And from there, the gathered skirt of the dress flows out to a long, full length.
The top of the short sleeves are puffed and gather at the binded hem. The bottom hem of the dress is trimmed in big beautiful lace. The same lace that trims the matching bonnet. The bonnet also features the same hand-embroidered design shown on the dress.
Smocking is commonly used on infant or toddler clothing as a decorative way to fit clothing, particularly around the bodice. It is made by gathering a section of the material into tight pleats and holding them together with parallel stiches in a fashionable way. It can also be used simply for its beautiful designs. Here, on this baby white dress, it is a beautiful way to gather the material from the skirt, directly under the bodice.
In sewing, a tuck is a fold in the fabric that is sewn in place.
